Not legal advice
The rules, minimum sizes, bag limits, closed seasons and licence notes on this site are a plain-English summary of what the regulators publish. They are general information, not legal advice, and they may be incomplete. The law is what the regulator's byelaws and orders say, not what this site says.
Rules change
Fisheries rules change, often each spring, and sometimes at short notice. Each rules box shows the date we last checked it. Before you fish, and always before you keep a fish, check the current rules with the regulator for that area: an Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (IFCA) in England, the Welsh Government in Wales, or the Marine Directorate of the Scottish Government in Scotland. Links are on every region page and on the Rules page.
Fish at your own risk
Sea fishing can be dangerous. Tides, waves, rock, cliffs, mud and cold water kill people every year. Marks, access and conditions change, and a place that was safe last month may not be today. You are responsible for your own safety and for anyone with you. Check the tide and the forecast, wear a lifejacket on rock, piers and walls, and never take a risk for a fish. In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Marks and access
Including a mark here doesn't mean you have a right to fish it or to cross land to reach it. Piers, harbours, ports and some beaches are private property with their own rules, permits and closures. Marks labelled "Not yet visited by us" are researched from public sources and haven't been checked in person.
Drive times and directions
Drive times on the Marks page are rough estimates from straight-line distance, with no traffic. Use a proper route planner.
Tackle and brands
Brands are named only as examples. We aren't paid by any tackle company, and naming a brand is not an endorsement.
