LRF micro jig
A tiny jig head with a scented worm, on very light tackle. It catches fish in harbours even in winter, when everything else is quiet.
- Targets
- Gobies, blennies, scorpionfish, small pollack, wrasse, flatfish
- Where
- Harbour walls, pontoons and marinas, any month
What you need
- Mainline
- PE 0.3–0.6 braid, or 4lb fluoro straight through
- Leader
- 4–6lb fluorocarbon
- Jig head
- 1–5g, size 8–6 hook
- Lure
- 1–2in isome or grub; scented works best
Build it
- Tie the jig head with a uni knot.
- Thread on a short isome, or cut a longer one in half.
- Drop it by the wall or weed and let it touch bottom.
- Hop it a few centimetres, let it settle, and repeat.
- Strike on any tap or extra weight.
On the beach
For the lightest rods, scale down. A 1g head in a slack harbour corner often out-fishes anything heavier.
Knots for this rig are in Knots. Line strengths, hook sizes and weights are starting points: scale them to your tackle, the ground and the tide. Diagrams are schematic and not to scale.
